This piece came about in 2011 after a day spent exploring some Gulf Coast communities. I started the morning in New Orleans, LA and walked through neighborhoods still showing gaping wounds decaying from Katrina's damage, amazed at the palpable reality of the disaster even 6 years after the hurricane. I ended the evening in Ocean Springs, MS, feeding the town's pet roosters who were adopted when they arrived in Katrina's wake.
