Apparition began as a study in space, to see what kind of atmosphere I could create with disproportionate doorways and furniture. I was looking for a dizzying, slightly off balance affect without using overtly surreal elements. Once this was complete I couldn't escape the idea that someone wanted to peek around the corner of the doorway, and I began painting that feeling. The result was what appears as an elegant lady apparition, catching a glimpse of us through the liminal space of the doorway.
